The EU Norms for Burglary-resistance safe ratings are values given by independent institutions recognized throughout Europe. The burglary grade could play a role for the insurance category of the stored valuables. Intensive tests are carried out, in order to determine how long the safe can withstand burglary attempts.
This Standard is meant to test the security level of safe cabinets that are used in the private sector.
GRADE S1: Lowest certification class. Mainly for private use.
GRADE S2: Stronger than S1. Often required by insurance companies for home security.
According to the standard EN 14450, the safe cabinets have to be anchored to guarantee safety. This can either be done on the ground (bottom of the safe) or on a wall. Combined anchoring to floor and wall is permitted as well.
This standard determines a safes, ATMs or strongboxes burglary resistance. The grade is measured according to the type of tools to be used and time duration to break in and gain complete access or partial access to the safe and its content. The resistance grades reach from 0 to XII. The most common ones are:
GRADE 0: burglary resistance for 30 minutes.
GRADE 1: burglary resistance for 30 to 50 minutes.
GRADE 2: burglary resistance for 50 to 80 minutes.
GRADE 3: burglary resistance for 80 to 120 minutes.
GRADE 4: burglary resistance for 120 to 180 minutes.
GRADE 5: burglary resistance for 180 to 270 minutes.
